How it works
Cam chat on Chatingly is always two cameras and two people. Press Start, and you're matched at random with someone else who pressed Start. You see their camera, they see yours, and you can talk, type, or play one of six games built into the call.
Your camera stays in your browser until you're matched. Before the first call you see a preview of yourself, so you can fix the light and the angle first. During a call, the camera button (V on a keyboard) turns your video off and the microphone button (M) mutes you.
Want someone who's into the same things? Add a few interests in the lobby, like gaming, football or photography, and we'll try to match you with someone who added one of them.

Stack a few books under the laptop or prop the phone up. Looking down into a camera is never flattering.
Sit about an arm's length away. Too close is a nose, too far is a room.
Phone cameras collect fingerprints. A quick wipe fixes the “blurry webcam” look instantly.
Speakers loop the other person's voice back into your mic. Any wired or Bluetooth earphones stop the echo.
You don't need a studio, just nothing you wouldn't want a stranger to see, like mail with your address.
No fake cams
A common trick on cam chat sites is to play a pre-recorded video or a stolen picture through a virtual camera program instead of a real camera. The person on the other side thinks they're talking to someone live.
Chatingly checks what kind of camera each person is using. When we're confident a camera is software that can show any video or picture, like OBS Virtual Camera, ManyCam or SplitCam, the other person sees a short note: this person might be using a simulated webcam. The person using it sees the same warning in the lobby, with a button to switch to a real camera if one is connected.
We only flag it when we're sure. Apps that turn a phone into a webcam (DroidCam, Iriun, Camo) and filters over a real camera (like NVIDIA Broadcast) aren't flagged, because there's still a real person on the other end.
Chatingly is not an adult cam site. Nudity and sexual content break the community guidelines, and anyone reported for it by two different people is banned permanently.
FAQ
You need a camera to start: a laptop webcam, a USB webcam or your phone's front camera all work. During a call you can turn your camera off with the camera button (or V on a keyboard), but most people skip a blank screen.
Usually it's better than a laptop webcam. Phone front cameras handle low light and focus well. Prop the phone up so it's steady and at eye level.

It will work, but your match sees a short note that your camera might be simulated, and you'll see the same note in the lobby, with a one-tap switch to a real camera if one is connected. Phone-as-webcam apps like DroidCam, Iriun and Camo, and effects over a real camera, don't trigger it.
No. Chatingly is a random video chat for adults to talk and play games. Nudity and sexual content are against the community guidelines. Anyone reported for it by two different people is banned automatically and permanently.
